The Tamil Parent Mentality

Hey, what's going on guys? :) we made some changes to our blog page, I hope you like them but if you don't then just let one of us know! It will improve as time goes on but we need your help; we're just beginners :) (I added the Hot Girl Sundae section ;) )
If you have had the pleasure of knowing me, you probably know I rant a f*ck load; so yes, this week I'ma have one... And you've probably already realised from the title, it's about the Tamil parent mentality... I'm not sure if it's all parents, of all cultures, or maybe just Asian parents, but I can safely say it's (most) Tamil parents... I want to say 'all' but I don't wanna make a stereotypical judgement - saying that I am yet to know a parent well who doesn't have this mentality...
The mentality I speak of has a load of 'attributes' from the way they spend money to the way they bring up children (which isn't always a bad thing), but my main issue is their constant worry of what people think of them, especially other Tamil parents... My parents had this problem, which probably is a big reason as to why they were pretty pissed off when I told them I dropped out of uni... They definitely know I am not gonna be a bum and sit around doing nothing my whole life (I'm studying accounting now) but they have this fear that that's what other parents think about me... And it didn't help that I bought an expensive car (after working 3 jobs and 70+ hours a week for a long time) because in their heads it was literally 'what would people think of you'... After I bought my car, my mum said (and I quote) 'it doesn't matter if it's your money or our money, everybody is going to think we bought you that car after you failed uni'.... Not gonna lie, this pissed me off to new levels... I mean, what the f*ck does it matter what other people think! I worked hard for my sh*t so it doesn't matter what people think, it doesn't affect us in the slightest! And I don't give a sh*t if people think I failed - I dropped out because I hated my course and didn't wanna waste my life doing it, so if I know that (and my parents know that) who gives a flying f*ck about what other people think...
But it's hard for them to understand...  Maybe because they're so traditional or old school... I guess my parents are coming round slowly (after many loud lectures) but I know many other parents that really don't understand... And I see kids getting forced into sh*t they never really wanted to do - like medicine or engineering when they really wanted to do computer sciences or become a teacher... It's kinda sad when I see something like that and I'm glad I have parents lenient enough to hear me out... For me, times have been pretty tough since I left uni... I even once had a group of parents come over, intervention style, to tell my parents how they need to sort my life out cos I'm failing. Needless to say, I got f*cking vexed, not only because they're intervening in something that shouldn't concern them at all but because they made my parents doubt me...

Well, I think this is my rant over lol... Let me know if your parents are the same or worse, you could even have a rant in the comment section… Maybe you completely disagree with me, let me know! But otherwise, until next time, sayonara b*ches...
